Curriculum

Math: We will be using ORIGO for our math curriculum.This program is aligned with the new Common Core State Standards. Lessons, in class assignments, and homework will derive from ORIGO. I will definitely be integrating my own work, as well as others from various resources, with the ORIGO. I will send home a welcome letter for every module if you would like a copy. This letter will address what will be covered for that particular module. For the year, we will cover 12 modules which consists of 144 lesson. Phew!!! :D 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Reading: Imagine it! will be used in regards to our reading curriculum. As like ORIGO, Imagine it! aligns with CCSS! Yay!! There will be six units covered throughout the year which also results in 144 lessons. The first ten days of school will cover the Getting Started portion of Imagine it! and is not necessarily part of a specific unit. Workshops will take place everyday to further enhance reading, writing, speaking, etc. There is more information on workshops under the Reading Workshop tab. Students will take home a Decodable story daily, if not, every other day. The decodable readings are in correlation for the weekly reading. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spelling: Spelling will be weekly with words from Imagine it!. The first ten days of school are an exception. 

 

 

 

 

 

Science/Social Studies: These subjects are integrated within the Imagine it! unit and ORIGO.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Specials: Music and PE will be every other day, twice a week. Library will be once a week for about 20 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Testing: STAR, IRI, and AIMS will be tested 3 times per school year. I will update the test dates as soon as possible. :) 

 

 

Grading

This will be the first year that second grade will be doing Standard Based Grading. Students will be given a 1-4 in specific target/subject areas.

1-not meeting grade level standard

2-approaching grade level standard

3-meeting grade level standard

4-exceeding grade level standard
